Stout bill and pale edges and tips to tertials and wing-coverts in all plumages. Adult has greyish upperparts, yellow iris and variable dark barring on whitish underparts.
Distribution:
Rare passage migrant through central and eastern parts of Gilgit-Baltistan, except for Ghizer and Diamer. Occurs in shrubby thickets, woodland margins, dense thorny bushes and clearings with rich undergrowth. Generally a forest species.

Forages near ground in bushes, sometimes in canopy in tall trees. Takes invertebrates mainly from leaves; rarely, catches insects on ground or in flight. Mostly insectivorous during breeding season; fruits become steadily more important in diet once breeding finished and just before and during migration.
